I recently sold my boat. I decided that I wasn’t a boat owner type. I love going out on a boat…if you own it, store it, haul it and maintain it. So feel free to invite me any time.

I was excited about the things I might buy: a mountain bike, a kayak, a new TV, a tummy tuck. But Sandra had other ideas.

School books.

Yes. School books. We homeschool and the kids need curriculum for the Fall. I looked around and couldn’t find cash anywhere. Someone had already pilfered through the couch cushions.

So I in essence traded my boat for school books. Not what I had in mind, but there have been worse trades.

Some people trade their happy family lives for a moment of pleasure.

Everyday people trade in good health for fast food.

Athletes trade in their integrity for bigger contracts and better stats. Most recently, Milwaukee Brewers Ryan Braun lied profusely about not using performance-enhancing drugs and in the process slandered and discredited the good reputations of others who testified against him. There is a video from last year in which he spewed lies.

All wrong doings have to be covered by lies on top of lies on top of lies. The lies end finally when the bare naked truth is exposed for all to see. But it’s too late for the people who have been damaged in the wake.

Will people ever learn? The Word says that God will uncover what men try to hide.

“There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.” Luke 12:2

In MLB especially there’s a litany of careers and reputations ruined due to steroid use. The thought that anyone is arrogant enough to think he can get away with it is beyond me.

It’s such a bad trade. Foolish.

Speaking of foolish trades, the whopper of all foolish trades was God trading His Son for me. Yes, even more foolish than the Yankees/A-Rod trade in 2004.

But you won’t hear me complaining about it.
