Baby Keely Is 16 Today!

Sixteen years ago today was the culmination of 6 months of solid praying and believing God for a miracle.

It was a journey filled with many miracle sightings along the way. We learned to expect them. As Israel Houghton said, “The atmosphere of expectancy is the breeding ground for miracles.”

Amen and amen.

No pun intended, but the miracle God delivered 16 years ago today was our baby girl, Keely.

Happy birthday, Keely!

Sandra’s OBGYN read the first ultrasound at 18 weeks into the pregnancy and told her the most gut wrenching news a young expecting mother can hear. Your baby will die soon. Unborn Keely’s chest cavity was filled with cysts instead of lungs. She had a condition called CCAM, which is an abbreviation for congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lungs. The most urgent issue was that the cysts smashed the heart putting such pressure on it that it should stop beating at any time. If the heart sustained for the duration of Sandra’s pregnancy, baby Keely would be born without lungs. Death was the expected outcome either way.

And the doctors couldn’t do a thing. Nothing.

Well, I take that back. Our OBGYN, Dr. Gurley, did gather us in a circle and we prayed for a miracle. The journey began. The next day a neonatal specialist recommended an abortion. No thanks. Didn’t we just pray for a miracle?

And we got one. It’s a much longer story that I may share in full detail later, but our little miracle is 16 today and will be driving soon.

I’m requesting prayers again. And another miracle. That the stress of worrying about her on the road won’t kill me .

Please pray.
