He Heard You The First Time

People don’t have to agree with my opinion, but it sure would make things easier for all of us.

Okay, I’m just kidding…a little.

Someone was sharing with me recently how he has been praying for something very specific. The conversation went something like this…

“Haven’t you already asked God for that?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“So why are you still asking and praying for the same thing?”

“Huh?”

“Did you pray in faith the first time? Do you believe God heard you?”

“Of course.”

“So why are still asking and praying for it?” I am redundant if nothing.

“If Will asks you to take him fishing,do you mind if he keeps asking you til you take him?”

My thoughts…maybe. He might get on my nerves after a while.

My words, “Of course not, but I’m not a perfect father. I forget sometimes and get distracted often.”

My thoughts again…and I may not want to go fishing.

My words, “Do you think God forgets?”

“No.”

“Of course not. He’s perfect, unlike me. So once you pray in faith for something one time shouldn’t your next words to The Lord about the matter be praise and thanks? Thank you, Lord for what You are doing. I trust and believe that You are working mightily on my behalf. Thank you.”

My opinions are always better when backed up by The Word. I didn’t have these specifically for our conversation, but my friend knows the Word good enough that he couldn’t hardly argue with my reasoning. I like it like that. But here we are:

Matthew 21:22, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Matthew 7:7, ”Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Mark 11:24, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

John 14:13-14, “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”

And my personal favorite on the subject.

1 John 5:14-15, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”

It’s not just my opinion. IT IS THE WORD OF GOD…
