We’re hosting a Thanksgiving dinner Sunday night and my son, Will, really wants to have a fire in the fire pit. It’s no problem, except that it’s supposed to rain later this afternoon (Saturday) and our firewood will get wet. He wasn’t deterred. We’ll just throw a tarp over it to keep it dry. He’s mentioned it 3-4 times over the last few days. It finally sank into my rock brain that he really wanted this fire to happen. Then I wanted it to happen for him. He wanted it so much that I wanted it just as much for him. A father wants to give good things to his children, especially good things they want. Sometimes I have to get beyond my own laziness and selfishness to get it done, but you know what? As a Christian, you have a Heavenly Father who wants to grant all of the desires of your heart and there’s not a microscopic iota of an ounce of selfishness in Him nor the lack of resources and power to make it happen.

We just have to ask.
